real overnice family movie

Opal Buloni (Anna Sophia Robb) moved with her preacher father (Jeff Daniels) to the small town of Naomi, Florida. Her mom had left them. He sends her to the local Winn Dixie grocery store where a dog is going wild. Opal pretends to the owner naming the dog Winn-Dixie. The dog is so rambunctious that her begetter calls the pound. She convinces him to keep the dog and gets a task working at the pet shop with Otis (Dave Matthews). She befriends blind hermit Gloria Dump (Cicely Tyson) with a tree and librarian Miss Franny Block (Eva Marie Saint) with a tall tale of an run across with a bear.

Anna Sophia Robb is a terrific child extra. She has great charisma and has very expert range. She's keen equally a tomboy as well as with the other girls. This is a motion-picture show nigh lost and regret. I love all of the characters and they are played by solid actors. Mayhap Otis could be played by somebody more menacing but Dave Matthews does become the damaged part of the character. It'south a nice story of people struggling to move on from their past and it's got a nice cast.

Prissy movie virtually a girl and her dog.

Warning: Spoilers

For me, the most interesting thing virtually this moving-picture show is the arrival of a new young star, AnnaSophia Robb, who plays Opal, the 10-year onetime daughter, new in town, without any existent friends. Her dad, whom she sometimes refers to as "the preacher" in voice-over, is played past Jeff Daniels. They move effectually a lot, such is the life of a Baptist preacher. The young actress reminds me so much of a immature Natalie Portman, especially her expressions and delivery of certain lines. In that location are a few scenes where they overdid the closeups of her facial expressions, just that is the managing director's fault. I wouldn't exist surprised to run into young AnnaSophia become one of the large stars during the next eight to 12 years.

We find out that Opal'due south mother left the family some years earlier, and Opal only has vague memories of her. Dad is very reluctant to talk near her mom, and the audition doesn't find out much, other than she felt under a microscope as a preacher's married woman, and left when she couldn't handle it any more than.

I twenty-four hour period when Opal has been sent to the store for a few items, a devious dog is running through the Winn-Dixie, creating havoc. Opal comes to its rescue, claiming it is hers, and its name is Winn-Dixie. Near the end she says, "all the fun I've had this summer is considering of Winn-Dixie", thus the title of the movie.

Several other practiced actors contribute, such as Cicely Tyson equally half-blind Gloria, who the local boys say is a witch. She turns out to be a overnice lady. Dave Matthews (of Dave Matthews Band fame) plays Otis, the local tender of the pet shop. eighty-year old Eva Marie Saint (of North By Northwest and On the Waterfront) is Miss Franny who tends the local library and befriends Opal.

I enjoyed the movie, I found myself wanting more but for what information technology is, a story of a girl and a dog in a new customs, information technology hits the marker nicely.

update Sept 2011: We recently saw "Soul Surfer" with a teenage Annasophia Robb, so I watched this again to see how she was every bit a child just starting time. I really enjoyed this movie a flake better than when I offset saw it several years ago. And it is fun to encounter how the young actress was back then.

Set in Florida, but filmed in the South Louisiana Cajun country.

A girl and her dog

Opal, the daughter of a preacher, is a daughter with a mind of her own. When she meets Winn-Dixie, she has establish a pal. Her male parent is a man that is in pain. He is trying to reconcile himself to his present circumstances. Arriving at the small southern boondocks, he must practice good work in order to attract a true-blue congregation. He doesn't accept much to fright, merely leave it Opal to go anybody together in a identify where people accept grown apart.

The peachy volume past Kate DiCamillo, is an excellent book for young adults. Joan Singleton adapted information technology for the screen and Wayne Wang directed a nice cast that produced a motion-picture show that, while some would retrieve it'southward too sugary for their taste, it captured perfectly the essence of a small southern town.

The sweet AnnaSophia Robb plays the leading role. This young actress is a natural, or so it seems. Jeff Daniels, one of our best actors is seen equally the preacher who tin can't forget his wife and who has to come to terms with himself. Cicely Tyson and Eva Maria Saint are perfect as ii of the boondocks's oldest citizens that are won over past Opal'southward goodness. Elle Fanning is seen as Sweetie Pie, a lovely daughter. B. J. Hopper and Dave Mathews besides contributed to the film.

This film was conspicuously targeted for young audiences. It has the correct ingredients that bear witness to be a magical combination for family movies, a girl and a cute dog, a sure formula for appealing to audiences. Wayne Wang, an unlikely choice for managing director, brings all these elements together for a picture that will not disappoint.

I of the Meliorate 'Family Films' in recent years

Because OF WINN-DIXIE succeeds as a apparent view of the world through children'southward eyes because it remains honest and straightforward. Credit manager Wayne Wang and Joan Singleton's screenplay accommodation of Kate DiCamillo's fine novel for keeping this story simple, direct, terse, and near important, non allowing information technology to fold into a saccharine tearjerker. Every bit it stands it is quiet, true, and a worthwhile statement virtually how children view adults and their progress toward becoming one.

Opal (AnnaSophia Robb) was deserted past her female parent at historic period iii and comes to live in a small-scale Florida town with her brittle preacher male parent (Jeff Daniels). She finds it difficult to adjust to the odd folk of the village until she adopts a terrific dog Winn-Dixie. Life blossoms for her until her domestic dog is lost during a storm and she faces tragedy in her life one time again. But this potential tragedy opens the door for her to relate to her male parent (and vice versa) and appreciate the disparate people who have befriended her.

The film is shot in a very small-scale calibration in keeping with the story. There are no pretensions hither: the people Opal meets include such fine grapheme actors as Cicely Tyson, Eva Marie Saint, Dave Matthews and the remainder of the cast is to be respected for the understated mode in which they describe their characters. Jeff Daniels (The Hours, The Squid and the Whale, Goodnight and Good Luck, The Cheerio Girl, Gods and Generals, etc) continues to prove that he is one of our finer actors on the screen and stage: when an actor of his stature takes on a film similar this, one is almost guaranteed it is a worthwhile motion picture to encounter. Not a great movie, but a very good one that provides a good for you breath of fresh air to the current choices of downer movies. Grady Harp

I would probably beloved this if I were 10

The best thing I can say for Winn-Dixie is it is the best film I accept seen on an aeroplane in years, only that's more a critique of airline movies than praise for this one. It's a pretty standard child's movie in which a lonely girl adopts a dog that results in adventures, misadventures and all sorts of friends. As I watched it, I saw lots of things that I would have thought were cool if I was a piddling child, but as an adult who has seen this sort of affair many times before I actually couldn't get that excited about any of it. If I hadn't been trapped on an plane I certainly would have stopped watching, simply since I stopped watching the last iii movies I saw on airplanes because they were and then painfully awful I accept to give this one credit for keeping me mildly entertained for a while.

sweet, wonderful film...

and it doesn't affair how old you are; information technology's enjoyable. You don't have to be a kid to be entertained by this movie. It's a feel good story. A young girl, Opal moves to a new boondocks with her begetter the Preacher. Her mother left them years agone. She is not good at making friends and is solitary. One mean solar day, she is in the local Winn Dixie and a dog is causing a commotion. She says the domestic dog is hers to keep him from going to the pound and names him Winn Dixie. Her father says she can keep him until they find a habitation for the domestic dog. Of course, she really loves the dog and he grows on the Preacher besides. With the assistance of the dog, Opal meets unusual "out casts" in town and befriends them. At that place is the erstwhile librarian, the almost blind lady local kids telephone call a witch, and the singing pet store employee who has been in jail. They all go Opal's friends as well as some local kids.

The movie is filled with some funny moments that made me laugh. I liked information technology a lot. It's so squeamish to see a sweet, funny motion picture that isn't filled with bathroom sense of humor. Plus, I love pets, so of course I'm biased toward Winn Dixie.

FINAL VERDICT: I recommend information technology for all.

Not right for me!

I'm right in the eye of suffering through a patch of stuff on Disney Plus that simply doesn't appeal to me. Films about dogs. And then many films well-nigh dogs. "Because of Winn Dixie" is more twee, plotless nonsense in this genre that was far too boring to go along my attention.

Opal (AnnaSophia Robb) moves to rural Florida with her father, a Preacher, (Jeff Daniels) following the breakup of his marriage. Opal struggles to make friends, simply ane twenty-four hours meets a stray dog which she names Winn Dixie, subsequently the supermarket she's in, and the pair get close immediately. Interactions with the domestic dog cause other people in the town to open a bit and better Opal'southward life immeasurably.

The trouble with the film is that information technology's a story that hints at other stories, rather than having one itself. Gloria, played past Cicely Tyson, clearly used to exist an alcoholic and talks about her mistakes just doesn't reveal what any of them were, as that might exist interesting. Otis, played by Dave Matthews (of the band) says he's related to the possessor of the pet store he's taken over merely that'southward too much like a story, so that's never actually confirmed, or investigated farther. It betrays that it's a book adaptation by making everything feel like chapters, rather than a developing story, nosotros see each graphic symbol in plow - acquire a tiny bit most them and move on. It'due south irksome, dull and, as I say, struggled to keep my attending.

I don't want to criticise the performances though, particularly from the youngsters in the bandage - child actors can really ruin a film, but they were all skilful here - including a turn from a very young Elle Fanning.

I am definitely not target audience, embittered, middle aged, atheist that I am but I can merely speak as I discover, and this was one of the most boring times I've had with Disney Plus, for quite a while.

Some Tips for Adult Viewers

It should be no undercover by now that "Because of Winn-Dixie" is a children's movie, its target audience of pre-teens are meant to exist entranced by the title grapheme and the many cute animals even if they have not read the book from which the film was adapted. This big budget ($20 Million) film made a lot of money by advisedly targeting this audience with a fairy tale story where there are no actually "bad" people.

Being a children's film is not a fault or at to the lowest degree should non be a fault. Simply teenagers and adults should sympathise going in that "Considering of Winn-Dixie" is non on the "family film" level of "Monkey Trouble" or "My Domestic dog Skip". There is less here for older viewers unless they are willing to permit themselves view the picture show from a child's optics.

That said there are some elements for more sophisticated viewers if they only wait hard enough.

Managing director Wayne Wang engages in a fair amount of self-parody. Although 10 year old Opal (the main human graphic symbol) is played realistically, Dakota Fanning'due south little sister Elle's character is (intentionally) i of the most sugary in film history, accordingly named Sweetie Pie Thomas. John McConnell and Harland Williams play the crybaby grocery shop manager and the goofy sheriff with a kind of homage to Barney Fife and Roscoe P. Coltraine.

Jeff Daniels gives an excellent performance as Opal'due south somewhat distanced father. Daniels plays the character with a prissy balance. The father-girl scenes are very believable and by far the best function of the film. There were many ways that these scenes could have gone wrong but Daniels manages to contrivance the traps and give us a conflicted grapheme with whom to connect.

Dave Matthews, Cecily Tyson, and Eva Marie Saint are interesting in supporting roles.

Finally there is AnnaSophia Robb (Opal), who similar Watch in "To Kill a Mockingbird" provides phonation-over narration to assistance mankind out the storyline. Unlike Sweetie Pie, Robb underplays her graphic symbol nicely, and is "pleasingly cute" as a Tomboy with great large eyes and a immature Jodie Foster/Lindsey Lohen style. This was her first feature but she quickly followed information technology up with a role in the new "Willy Wonka" picture show, the two roles are polar opposites so it appears that Robb has a decent almost of versatility. She should have quite a hereafter as an actress.

Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.

Skillful Family Film!

10year-old Opal adopts a boisterous stray dog establish running amuck in a supermarket and names him "Winn-Dixie" after the store. She takes him home to her melancholy father who is the preacher at a pocket-size town Florida church. It will remind you a bit of "Pollyanna" as she befriends all mode of unique lonely adults with her super-charismatic dog. The dog appears to be a mutt just it is actually a very large and smart French Breed resembling a sheepdog. She picks upwardly a number of friends along the manner. Even the ii boys she hangs around with, who constantly heckle her, actually similar her. I do non call back if there are whatsoever scenes at schoolhouse considering it appear to all happen over the course of the Summertime. In an unusual plot twist, her mom is not dead ,but only "MIA" subsequently leaving her dad because she didn't like being held up to the scrutiny of beingness a preacher's wife. Not quite 9 stars, considering the story doesn't appear quite believable as information technology should be? Null objectionable and no violence. Squarely aimed at the family audience. Starring Jeff Daniels (Preacher), Cicely Tyson (Gloria Dump) and AnnaSophia Robb (Opal). Rated 4 dog biscuits and 2 hankies.

Don't press too hard!

Considering of Winn-Dixie never quite figures out what information technology wants to be, and the issue is a more than serious than expected, not quite a kid flick, morally uplifting failure. The story of a child, transplanted by her wandering and emotionally wounded minister father, who aches for friendship and finds it from one of the strangest looking dogs I've e'er seen, is sweet and gentle and painful. There are solid performances by AnnaSophia Robb (a beautiful child who knows the departure betwixt acting and whining), Jeff Daniels (who seems to be bordering on stolidity, not solidity equally he gets older), Cicely Tyson, and Eva Marie Saint (two women who have anile meliorate than mere mortals could ever expect). Also, the moving-picture show is shot in a Deep S community that is then pretty, this native Washingtonian would like to travel to Dixie.

There's real emotional and moral depth to this movie, but the motion picture makers apparently didn't accept enough faith in the material because they jazz it up--and lose the focus of the film--with some very forced slapstick and an idiotic appearance past Harland Williams, a thoroughly annoying and repulsive non-actor, as a sheriff's deputy who has aught to do in the film but harass children and guitar players and mostly misuse the taxpayers' money.

Because of Winn-Dixie fails from its lack of religion in the strength of its story. If it were some silly, slapstick kiddie film, it would have worked (and I would have tried to avoid it similar the plague) and if it had been whatsoever more psychologically satisfactory and satisfying, well, you might accept seen it as a Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation, non a mainstream theatrical presentation.

Information technology's worth the rental cost only if you want to sentinel a decent story, while accepting the fact that the kiddies might bank check out (which would be unfortunate because most folks wouldn't hire Because of Winn-Dixie for themselves, simply for family consumption).

Flawless and charming tail of growing up in the South

Proficient movies devoid of special furnishings nonsense were few and far between in 2005, then forth comes this most-perfect gem nearly a ten year erstwhile daughter and her preacher male parent and how the adopted canis familiaris changes their lives. Not a single false note spoils this engrossing story, a drum-scroll credit to 20th Century-Fox for having made it. The child actress is perfect, of grade, and has eyes that make me doubtable she's a "Village of the Damned" alien. Yeehah! It reminded me of "To Kill a Mockingbird" --- but without the strong negatives of that film (not the book). The makers of Mockingbird had an obvious and intense hatred of the South (in contrast to the book) and don't you lot just know that all Southerners save newspaper-hero Atticus Finch were dirty rotten small-scale-minded bigots. Not so here. The makers of WINN DIXIE beloved the South, every bit I do, and portray it with advisable affection and beloved. Amen!

A canis familiaris story that will brand you smiling

Opal (AnnaSophia Robb), is a 10-year-old girl who has just moved to a small town in Florida with her preacher father (Jeff Daniels). The move has caused Opal to lose all her friends, and at present she must beginning all over again. Life has been a little tough for Opal, since her mother abased them when she was three. Opal'due south father asks her to pick up a few items for dinner at the Winn-Dixie supermarket. While in the store, a large dog is running loose in the store with clerks chasing later on him. The store director wants to call the dog pound, merely Opal says that the canis familiaris is hers, and his name is Winn-Dixie. Opal accept the dog dwelling house, and must convince her male parent to keep the dog. He agrees to keep the dog temporarily, until a new owner tin be found. They go around town putting upward posters of the dog, and after in the 24-hour interval Opal goes effectually and takes the posters down, because she secretly wants to keep the dog. Opal discovers that Winn-Dixie is able to make friends with everyone he meets, and now Opal has some new friends, because of Winn-Dixie. This is a good heartfelt story of the bond between a fiddling girl and her dog. The story shows that a dog can bring happiness to a lonely girl and open up hearts of the people in town. I don't know how they did it, but the dog tin can actually smiling. Y'all can take your children to encounter this touching story. (20th Century Fox, Run time one:46, Rated PG) (vii/10)

Sweetness Little Motion-picture show

This is a cute lilliputian movie with a dog that stole the pic from the rest of the cast. The little girl Opal was every bit beautiful as a button and it was expert to encounter Eve Marie Saint and Cecelie Tyson once again although both of them are deserving of bigger and better parts. Time has non been kind to either of them as the take gotten very sometime. This is the story of a preacher whose wife left him and his young daughter and the trial and tribulations they confront in a modest boondocks in Florida. The story was a cute one, but I would say this pic is for the very young people in the audience. This 1 can expect for the DVD so the kids can watch it over and over, every bit it is a kids motion-picture show.

Wow, that canis familiaris sucked.

This film was utterly painful to lookout. The dog, despite causing early problems for people, somehow brings everybody together. Aye that is the backbone of lots of beast-themed movies, but usually those have good and funny moments.

Nevertheless this one failed to bring any real conflict. Cypher funny or stupid happened like in Beethoven or Ace Ventura. It didn't even have a cuteness that the "Frazier" dog, Eddie, brought with him.

And what the heck has happened to Jeff Daniels? Offset he is driving a van with dog ears, now he is beaten by an actual dog, despite his attempts to rid himself of the pest. Jeff Daniels sure has slid into obscurity.

Overall, not worth watching. Not fifty-fifty for the blind adult female and the Rev. Jeff Daniels. And to be named for a failing food franchise? Wow, not expert."F"

You are like a butterfly... a caterpillar's dream to fly.

"You are like a butterfly... a caterpillar's dream to fly." -Dave Matthews

First of all let's take this in the correct context. This is a kid's pic in the literal sense of the word. So what you are going to detect is a semi-unrealistic plot driving a experience proficient flick. That aside, allow's look at the particulars.

Acting. Annasophia Robb is there to steal the prove, and she does with flight colors. Her expressions, and mannerisms both physical and vocal are endearing, smart, and mature.

I was a piddling worried about Dave Matthews existence in this film, but he was smashing. I love that starting time scene where the parrot lands on Winn Dixie's caput, and Opel says okay then information technology'southward all set, thanks for the chore yous wont be sorry I'g a real difficult worker equally she is walking out the door, and Otis ( Matthews ) is trying to tell her he can't just hire her, then ends off resigned with "That'south dainty, thank you for listening", as the door closes behind her, that was sheer brilliance for this genre. The parrot lands on the domestic dog's head and says, Hello!

I loved that scene. The film manages to capture the essence of something so good, and refreshing, it's truly a joy to watch.

Or the scene where Dave Matthews is playing his guitar on the floor of the store, and he has allow all the animals out of their cages, and he'due south playing for them.. that's so crawly. Hehe, something I'd do if I worked at a pet store.

Then this other little girl walks in, sees the animals all over the store, in tranquillity, and exclaims "I'k going to tell my my mom what I see" she points at Matthews playing the guitar and says, "That man is magic." She nods to herself, "He's a magic man!" like so matter of fact; you gotta beloved it.

What nosotros come to understand is each character in this flick has been abandoned by someone, and we experience their loss, and their renewal as the movie moves forward. And therein lies the truthful beauty of Winn Dixie. Y'all will leave this film smiling.

Competent children'south film

One of the main generic recipes for children's films is the animal movie. I accept had the unfortunate experience of watching many of these films, primarily on international flights. Some of the tales of horror that I've seen in the past include: MVP 2: Most Vertical Primate, Air Bud, and Await Who's Talking At present. And on my most contempo international flying, I had the "opportunity" to "bask" this film. Twice.

That gave me plenty of opportunity to consider the moving-picture show. First of all, I'll have to say that it is on a level improve than other children's' animal films I've seen in the past. This is not Beethoven. I can honestly say that this picture show actually has some existent drama in it, in the form of a broken family unit consisting of a preacher and his daughter (and eventually the titular Winn-Dixie).

In fact, the picture show isn't about the canis familiaris, but the relationships that are formed "because" of the domestic dog (hence, the title). And the cast of characters are all mildly endearing. These characters include a sad/alone librarian, a sorry/lonely/blind black adult female, a sad/lonely/musical Dave Matthews, and you tin judge how the characters go. They class relationships and learn to be less deplorable and lonely and in process, the movie tries to pull some "aww"'s from you.

Tries.

Actually, I can't say that I was afflicted by the motion picture and the catastrophe relies on y'all having a particular affection for the dog, but ultimately, you're more interested in the characters, so information technology detracts from the management of the film. As well, the characters practice show some depth, but ultimately the story is still generally a little weak.

Only in the end, the direction is competent, the acting is passable for a children's film, the animal isn't as well annoying and generally the film is pleasant enough for a viewing. When I said that in that location are better means than Mulan II to entertain kids, this is one of those ways.

That said, the 2d time I was watching this moving-picture show, I was wishing that the screen (for the projector) wasn't directly in my face. What's whimsical and cute the kickoff time around becomes a little painful the second time. In the terminate, it'southward an okay motion picture. I can't say that well-nigh all the other children's' beast films that I've noted. six/10.

P.Southward. General note: avoid sequels (especially directly-to-video) of children's' films, especially animal films. Think that because I gave a passing rating to Because of Winn-Dixie that I'll exercise the same for the sequel? You lot know the reply to that.

Tale of the pup

Warning: Spoilers

(Originally published on Feb. 17, 2005) Okay, it'south dizzy, dopey and sickeningly sweetness, but there is something irresistible virtually this new 20th Century-Fox kids' motion picture, "Because of Winn-Dixie," starring Jeff Daniels ("Terms of Endearment," "Aranchnophobia") as a sullen preacher raising his flaxen-haired, large-eyed girl, India Opal (Annasophia Robb), in the backwater town of Naomi, Fla.

Populated by old buildings, rusted automobiles and run-downwardly trailer parks, equally well every bit bearish citizens (but no friends Opal's historic period), Naomi (Australia filling in hither for the Sunshine Land) is not a bright spot in this girl'due south life, who'south own mother left several years before.

Her father, morose and distant, is no assist, either, as he cannot even seem to treat himself, let alone her or his dwindling congregation.

Then, one day, while picking up macaroni and cheese at the local Winn-Dixie grocery outlet, Opal rescues a wild canis familiaris that has already trashed the identify. This is the get-go of several scenes in which the big, ugly mongrel (a Picardie Shepherd, which resembles a cross between a werewolf and a llama with a actually creepy "smiling") runs amok and wrecks things (Opal's trailer, a pet shop, a church building, etc.).

It gets to exist old afterwards a while, and before long I - an agog domestic dog lover - was even questioning my ain fondness for the species. Despite this, Opal takes the flea-bitten mutt dwelling house and tries to convince dad to let her keep it.

At first, like anyone in their right listen, he says no, but nosotros all know he volition have a change of heart, and, tossing common sense out the window, he caves in similar a cheap card table. Meanwhile, in an effort to purchase the domestic dog a neckband, the girl takes a job sweeping floors and picking up trash at the local pet shop run by none other than musician Dave Mathews, who plays ex-con Otis (he served time, no doubt, considering of his incoherent singing/mumbling).

Picayune Opal can be abrasive and whiny herself, merely she has a skilful middle, really cares for the pup, seeks knowledge near her missing mom and really wants to get close to her father. Daniels plays the humiliated reverend - forced to take free rent and preach to his tiny flock gathered in a former convenience store - very well. It was the aforementioned office that Walter Huston excelled in 1938's "Of Human Hearts."

The immature lady begins to spend a little too much time with the dog, even so, constantly talking to information technology while actually believing that it understands her. subsequently, Opal meets lone librarian, Miss Franny (Eva Marie Saint, Academy Award winner for "On the Waterfront"), and local eccentric, Gloria Dump (Cicely Tyson, Emmy Laurels winner for "The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pitman"), as well as others closer to her age.

There's Amanda Wilkinson (Courtney Jines), "Sweetie Pie" Thomas (Ella Fanning, Dakota's little sis) and the irritating Dewberry Brothers (Nick Price and Luke Benward). Add together to this mix the big-headed, bumbling sheriff (Harland Williams, "At that place's Something Virtually Mary") and crotchety trailer park owner, Alfred (B.J. Hooper), and alloy in a happy ending, and you have a decent family movie.

It's uneven and downright ridiculous at times, but for some strange reason, it's difficult non to like - somehow.

A Horrible Film

Because of Winn-Dixie is a horrible mess of a film, the story is extremely formulaic and cheesy, plus full of major plot holes. It just doesn't work at all. The performances are also horrible, particularly Annasophia Robb in the atomic number 82 roll every bit the niggling girl the film circles around. Jeff Daniels and Eva Marie Saint are usually great actors but here they not simply requite their own worst performances, but some of the worst ever put on screen. The management is sentimental and horrible, just awful. This guy should just finish making movies, I hope he never does does it again. The dog is just annoying, the effects horrible, the plot holes are many, information technology simply stinks.

A uncomplicated, sweet, and touching little film, AnnaSophia Robb is wonderful.

You know being a 22-year-sometime male and wanting to see a film about a little girl finding a friend in a dog doesn't quite match up to well. But I'm weird like that and I wanted to see "Because of Winn-Dixie." The trailer looked pretty decent and it'southward always overnice to encounter Hollywood release a nice family unit moving picture, which doesn't involve talking animals or is animated. And so needless to say I wanted to see "Because of Winn-Dixie" and did so this afternoon.

"Because of Winn-Dixie" is most a father and daughter who move to a small town in Florida to forget there past. The father played by Jeff Daniels is a Preacher. His daughter Opal (AnnaSophia Robb) is trying to find friends. You see Opal's mother walked out on her and her father without any knowledge of them knowing. This is why they move to the new town. So one day, the Preacher tells Opal to go to the Winn-Dixie Supermarket to become some macaroni and cheese. While Opal is at the shop, she notices a dog running around similar crazy through the store. The managing director wants to call the pound to get the dog removed but Opal has dissimilar plans. She tells the managing director that the dog running around the store is her dog and it's proper noun is Winn-Dixie. Opal and Winn-Dixie get best of friends and together they meet new friends equally the film goes along. A very touching and uncomplicated movie ensues….

AnnaSophia Robb is just adorable. I mean seriously she was just a joy to watch on the screen. She made everyone else look similar an amateur. I promise she gets big considering if Dakota Fanning can make it and lets exist real that girl is ugly, I think Anna Sophia Robb can make it. What am I saying she has made it, she has this movie under her belt and is in "Charlie and the Chocolate Manufactory" which is going to rock and roll! Moving on, Jeff Daniels does a pretty decent job in the moving picture equally well. He plays a very good parent who is having a hard fourth dimension dealing with life. Jeff Daniels is a good thespian and should be in more films. Besides in the film is Dave Matthews, which was interesting. Yes, the main vocalizer from the Dave Matthews Ring. He was pretty good I would say. His character had some mystery to it. Also Cicely Tyson who played Gloria was a nice touch on. She played a very adept mysterious old adult female who the children were afraid of.

I have not seen many of Wayne Wang's films merely I know some of pretty critically acclaimed like "The Joy Luck Society". The only two films of Mr. Wang's that I take seen were "Anywhere But Here" with Natalie Portman and Susan Sarandon, which I did enjoy, and the awful Jennifer Lopez vehicle "Maid in Manhattan." The actual location that the motion picture was shot was pretty nice really. Information technology had a very classic small town kind of feel to information technology. I also like how Mr. Wang actually caught the emotion of Opal and Winn-Dixie. That was good.

"Because of Winn-Dixie" was based on the novel with the same name. I did not read the book nor would I compare the 2 since I am sure they would bump heads. However, Joan Singleton transferred the book into a script. The script was pretty skilful at developing characters and yet still leaving some mystery to the characters. Like I said, I enjoyed the scenes with Opal and Winn-Dixie because I think they showed real emotion and were believable. Information technology'southward like the onetime proverb human being's best friend but in this example Winn-Dixie was Opal's best friend. Characters as I said were pretty well written although some characters were rather pointless and should have been edited out like the cop played past the normally funny Harland Williams only in this film he didn't work out to good. Mayhap this was in the book, I don't know but I just experience I could have washed without that graphic symbol.

And then what tin can I say, I liked "Because of Winn-Dixie". It'southward a very simple and cute movie. It's basically about a lonely girl who is looking for a friend and finds it in a dog. It's a very heartfelt film. It's not going to win any awards any fourth dimension shortly or exist hailed every bit great but it is a expert niggling innocent flick. I like to run into wholesome movies, and I recollect it's a shame we don't have many of these anymore. AnnaSophia Robb steals the show with a touching and believable operation. The pic is very old-fashioned like a live-action 1970s Disney film. I do recommend it.

MovieManMenzel's Concluding rating for "Considering of Winn-Dixie" is a seven/10. So if you want to have your kids, accept your brothers or sisters, or merely become by yourself to see a prissy, wholesome film, this is a very good choice.

Family unit picture that volition charm the heart of pet lovers of all ages

This film came amazingly apace to Video/DVD. I am so thankful that we got to borrow information technology at Blockbuster and and so buy it the aforementioned week. The Wayne Wang adaptation of the DiCamillo children'south novel was brought to the small screen with some corking extras. The DVD featurettes and "Gag reel" are quite agreeable;the commentary runway I listened to (Producer and Adult co-star) was far above boilerplate in the run of such extras. The 106-infinitesimal flick had no weak sequences. To my taste, the special effect sequences were so tasteful and cursory while moving forward the attention-grabbing narrative. In COMMENTS, I am usually more of a stickler about filmed locations versus the supposed state/region. The Florida setting was believable fifty-fifty though the Louisiana "reality" was discernible. The interplay between the domestic dog and the adult and child actors was very, very well-shot. The Picardy shepherd breed dog(brought from France) was one I unhesitatingly endorse as a "10" animal actor, considering other famous canines, small, medium, and large. Do run to the video shop and see this superb production!

This film is Astonishing!

Warning: Spoilers

You know what? This pic wasn't bad at all, I was like awed over everything. The story, the plot, the directions, EVERYTHING. So this moving-picture show starts off at a shy girl who wants to find someone beloved and clue. And she found Winn-Dixie, a beloved, cheerful puppy who may be agape of thunderstorms merely loves the girl and becomes friends with her. In this coming of age story, the young girl and her domestic dog, Dixie observe exceptional wonders and imaginations and experiences. Subsequently, the girl discovers a helpful woman and accustoms her and as soon equally she gets more and more than used to her, they start planning a party. But Winn-Dixie suddenly runs off during the start of the party, Opal gets upset and is anxious to detect him. So she comes across her dad who will attempt to find Winn-Dixie, simply couldn't complete his endeavor, he wanted to give upward and the girl kept begging and presently within the centre of the political party, Winn-Dixie came back and gave the girl glee and content. So this motion picture was pretty interesting and really attracted my attention; the affair about the 10 things almost her mom before she left the boondocks and everything, I was amazed. If they would brand a sequel, it would be impressive.

Tried to exist a great pic but roughshod brusque

The elements were in that location such as Jeff Daniels and Cicely Tyson and AnnaSophia Robb who gave a fantastic performance. The motion picture was based on a wonderful book and peradventure that was the challenge, converting the screenplay from the book. A practiced film is is composed of several fundamentals. One of which is a logical sequence of scenes that make sense and are executed well. I watched with my son as we both read the book and I establish myseld looking at my watch wondering when volition this be over? If someone is to blame I guess I'd bespeak to the director and the screenwriter who adjusted the book. Great musical score, acting and there were some cute scenes but in the cease the moving-picture show falls far brusk of the book. Too bad.

Non fifty-fifty entertaining

I took my nephew to see this i and had no real expectations of anything deep or masterful, because, hey...it's a kid's flick. Well, I was even so disappointed. This was boring and idiotic and a complete waste of Jeff Daniel's considerable talent. Kid'south movies are supposed to exist fun, light and breezy, but this matter just lacked plot and promise. The whole "smiling domestic dog" thing wore out information technology'south welcome after beingness shown 5 million times. Even my nephew (who'due south eight years old) got bored with this and asked to exit earlier it ended. No problem complying at that place. If it'due south kid-friendly flicks you're afterwards, stick with practiced ones like Water ice Historic period or Toys or even Milo and Otis, if it'southward the brute thing yous are after. Avoid this.
